Barbara Christine Grimes

Barbara Christine Grimes, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, at Hospice House Satilla in Waycross, Georgia. Born on September 5, 1942, in Murphy, North Carolina, Barbara was raised in Cartersville, Georgia by her loving mother, Muriel May.

Throughout her life, Barbara was known for her nurturing spirit and deep devotion to her family. She was an awesome mother who provided her daughter, Lisa Grimes, with everything a child could desire, embodying unconditional love and support. Her warmth extended generously to her grandchildren—Shane, Sean, Tanner, Tyler, Bryson, and Broden; great-grandchildren, Aidrik, Cash, Amri Anne, Remi—whom she adored and spoiled rotten, leaving them countless joyful memories.

Barbara lived the majority of her life in Montana, although her journey also took her through Florida and Tennessee. Most recently, she made her home in Blackshear, Georgia, where she continued to touch the lives of those around her. A devout Christian, Barbara’s faith was an integral part of her being, shaping her life and the lives of her loved ones. She cherished her relationship with Jesus and radiated kindness to all who knew her, earning her a reputation as a great person who brought joy and love wherever she went.

In addition to her daughter, Barbara leaves behind her beloved husband, Fred R. Grimes, with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage—a testament to their unwavering commitment to one another. She is also survived by her siblings: Betty, Mary, Carolyn, Linda, Joyce, Sandra, Peggy, Gary, Larry, and Jerry, who together with her living family will forever hold her memory dear.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Zadie Elliott May, and her brother, Stanley. While she has departed from this earth, her legacy of love, joy, and faith will continue to inspire her family and friends, reminding them of the invaluable lessons she imparted throughout her life.
