Bertha Lorraine Flowers

Bertha Lorraine Flowers was born on June 13, 1944, and passed away on September 11, 2026. Her life held great love as well as tremendous loss, but through every season, family remained at the heart of who she was.

In 1960, Bertha married Cecil Howard Jackson, and together they had four daughters. Following Cecil’s passing in 1976, she continued raising her family and moving forward through life. In 1998, she married Wilborn Larry Flowers, and they shared their lives together until his passing in 2019.

Bertha was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but her relationship with her grandchildren was uniquely her own. They didn't call her “Grandma” or “Granny.” To them, she was simply Bertha, and Bertha was unmistakably Bertha.

She was loving and caring, energetic and a little crazy, very outspoken, and never afraid to be herself. There was rarely any question about how Bertha felt. She either loved you or she didn't, but those she loved received that love wholeheartedly.

Her grandchildren brought her tremendous joy. She was part of their lives in all the ways that mattered—loving them, worrying about them, celebrating with them, and fussing when she thought they needed it. They might grow older, but to Bertha, they would always be her babies.

Bertha also experienced the heartbreak of losing people she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; her son-in-love, Dean Anderson; and her grandson, Robbie Barnard.

She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Camryn (Blade Bell), Courtney Barnard, Matthew, Hannah, Ava, and Jackson Anderson; her daughters, Betty Anderson, Earlene Jackson, Theresa Jackson (Dean Cranford), and Cecilia Flowers; her siblings, Helen Pedden, Eunice Brown, Faye Mitcham, Tammy Smith and Guy Caison as well as other family and friends.

The true measure of Bertha's life is found in what remains behind: a family she helped build, people she loved deeply, laughter that will still be heard when her stories are told, and memories that will be carried from one generation to the next.

There was only one Bertha—loving, crazy, caring, outspoken, and unapologetically herself. Anyone who truly knew her knows there could never be another.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 14, 2026 beginning at 10:30am with the funeral services to follow at 11:00am from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with Daniel Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alex Williams, Ricky McGlashan, Lonnie DeLoach, Toby Davis, Hank Sikes and Allen Sharpe.
