Billy "Jock" Groover, age 77, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at his residence under the care of his family and Bridge Hospice. He was born on August 2, 1948 to Rufus Lester and Wilma Watson Groover and was a lifelong resident of the Sandhills.
A master by trade, Jock was remarkably skilled, responsible for constructing many significant structures, including the Talmadge Bridge in Savannah. His meticulous attention to detail and passion for his craft made him a respected figure in the woodworking community.
Throughout his career, Jock showcased not only his talents as a builder but also his deep-seated commitment to family and friendship. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he devoted countless hours to helping those around him, often assisting family and friends in need with their own home-building projects, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Jock appreciated nature and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, fishing, and boating, which provided him a well-deserved respite from his busy days. His love of traveling and roaming took him on adventures and you may even have caught him “jukin” a time or two at the local area VFWs, he was definitely known to cut a rug!
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These special moments brought him immense happiness and fulfillment, and they will forever remember the warmth and wisdom he shared with them.
He was of the Baptist faith and is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Logan Bonin; his siblings, Ann Cammack, LJ Groover, Gene Groover, and Rachel "Winky" Cammack.
He is survived by his children, Michelle Kicklighter, Leslie (Angie) Groover all of Townsend, Terry Groover, Tiffany (Gabriel) Bonin, and Randel (Megan) Harold all of Glennville; brother, Jim Groover of Savannah; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; his companion, Becky Montella of Glennville; too many bonus children to name that he helped raise and loved dearly; several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to invite friends and loved ones to honor Jock at The Glennville Funeral Home located at 403 W. Barnard Street, Glennville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM with Pastor Rachel Harrelson officiating.
