Billy Dean Hennessey, age 85, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at his home. He was born in Indiana on June 24, 1940, to Don Clayton and Marjorie Cope Hennessey and had lived in Indiana for many years before moving to Glennville in 2007.
Billy dedicated over 22 years of his life to serving in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. His commitment to his country and fellow service members earned him the respect and admiration of many. Upon retiring from military service, he continued to contribute to his community through various roles, including managing a mobile home park, managing a grocery store, and managing the team at Walmart.
Education was important to Billy, and he proudly held an associate's degree. He was also an active member of organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion, where he found camaraderie and support among fellow veterans.
Billy had a passion for hobbies that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. He loved fishing and had a deep appreciation for sports, particularly football. His enthusiasm for his favorite teams, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Miami Dolphins, was well-known among family and friends, and he enjoyed sharing his spirited support during game days.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Ellen Jo Hennessey; and his brother, Jerry Hennessey.
Billy Dean is survived by his sons and daughter in law, James and Elliet Hennessey of Glennville, Billy Wayne English and Kerry Dean English both of Florida; his daughter, Sandra Hennessey of Glennville; grandchildren, Cecilia Hennessey of Alabama, Elliott Hennessey of Glennville, Eric Olson, Ian Brown, Christianna Wright, Taylor Sapp of Glennville and Harvey Berry of Texas; great grandchildren, Payton Wright and Jaycee Wright both of Glennville.
The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00am on Monday, August 25, 2025 with the funeral services to follow at 12:00pm from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with the Reverend Brad Pickren officiating. Interment will be in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Amy Dutton Kicklighter, Eric Olson, Micelle O'Neil Bass, Harvey Berry, Carolyn Strickland Nutt, and Keandre Cain.
