Brenda Louise Crews McCumber, age 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2025, under the compassionate care of Community Hospice after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Tattnall County, she was born in Collins on February 21, 1949, to the late Harry and Inez Crews.

Brenda was the oldest of ten children and from a young age lovingly helped care for her younger siblings. She quickly developed a gift for cooking and became known as a wonderful cook throughout her life. She graduated with honors from Reidsville High School, Class of 1967, and went on to work with Nelson Sales Company, Kennedy Cablevision, and Kennedy Construction. She later fulfilled her career at Tattnall County Farm Bureau, where she retired as Office Manager.

In 1978, Brenda accepted Christ as her Savior and became a dedicated member of Elza Baptist Church. For many years she faithfully served as Church Treasurer and was always happy to lend her hands in the church kitchen, especially during Vacation Bible School.

Brenda loved reading, watching old movies and game shows, with Jeopardy being her favorite. She was also an avid sports fan, played softball in her younger years, and proudly cheered on her family at countless games. Some of her greatest joys came from traveling with her sisters, particularly to the mountains. Above all, she cherished her role as mama, nana, sister, and aunt, finding her deepest happiness in time spent with her children, grandchildren, and her beloved great grandson, Aiden. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Jerry Cowart; and her niece, Hannah Collins.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kelly McCumber of Soperton and Shelly Watts of Reidsville; four grandchildren, Logan (Lacie) McCumber of Reidsville, Parker Cox of Reidsville, Lane Watts of Reidsville, and Pacey Watts of Reidsville; one great grandchild, Aiden McCumber of Reidsville; five brothers, Kenneth (Debbie) Crews of Reidsville, Roger (Joy) Crews of St. Simons Island, David (Phyllis) Crews of Reidsville, Mark (Marika) Crews of Reidsville, and Dean Crews of Reidsville; four sisters, Janice Cowart of Reidsville, Melanie Lewis of Reidsville, Pam (Glenn) Shuman of Collins, and Tammy (Billy) Collins of Collins; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Erin Wrenn, Bonnie Blackburn, and Marlee Allen also survive.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the chapel of Low Country Cremation & Burial.

The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Elza Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Edwards officiating.

Interment will follow at Reidsville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lance Cowart, J.K. Crews, Chase Shuman, Caleb Crews, Dently Crews, Ben Collins, and Dalton Crews. Honorary pallbearers will be the nieces, great nieces, and great nephews.
