Carolyn Jeanette Harrington

Carolyn Jeanette Harrington, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Meadows Memorial Hospital under the compassionate care of Community Hospice. Born on July 31, 1939, in Uvalda, Georgia, to Benjamin and Sallie Lovette Fort, Carolyn lived a quiet life marked by steadfast devotion, sacrifice, and an unwavering love for her family.

Carolyn spent her professional career in civil service at Fort Stewart, where she faithfully worked for many years before retiring. Yet, beyond her own career, an important chapter of Carolyn’s life was written alongside her beloved husband, Al Harrington, during his more than 20 years of service in the United States Army.

Carolyn was the very definition of a devoted Army wife. Wherever military service called Al, Carolyn faithfully stood beside him, creating a home and providing a steady foundation through the many changes and uncertainties that accompanied military life. During his tours of duty in Vietnam, she remained his constant source of love, encouragement, and support from home. While Al wore the uniform, Carolyn shared in the sacrifices that came with his service. In her own quiet way, she too served her country by standing faithfully beside the man who had pledged his life to defend it. Through deployments, duty stations, long separations, and eventually his retirement after more than two decades of service, Carolyn remained his steadfast and loving counterpart.

Those who knew Carolyn knew her as a largely reserved woman who never sought attention for herself. Her world centered around the people she loved, and family was where she found her greatest purpose. She did not need grand gestures to demonstrate her love. It could be seen in her presence, her dependability, and the simple certainty that whenever her family needed her, Carolyn was there. Her devotion to them knew no bounds, and the depth of the love she carried for her family could never adequately be expressed in words.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Al Harrington; her daughter, Debbie Griffin; her granddaughter, Brandy Scott; her brother, Benny Fort; and her sister, Ruth Edwards.

Left to cherish a lifetime of memories made together are her son, David (Angel) Harrington; three grandchildren, Samantha (Richard Trevino) Griffin of Collins, Johnathan Henderson of Anderson, South Carolina, and Nichole Jackson of Collins; three great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Nicholas, and Abigail; and numerous other relatives and friends who also survive.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the chapel of Low Country Cremation & Burial.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. David Lamm officiating.
