Obituary

Ms. Celina Rogers Sharpe, age 89, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Statesboro. The Glennville native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Aden and Lennie Easterling Rogers and graduated from Glennville High School in 1936 and attended Georgia Teachers College. She taught school at Hillview, Tyson and Reidsville during the 1940’s before becoming the Director for the Tattnall County Department of Family and Children Services in April 1952 where she served until October 1977 when she retired. She was a member of the Tattnall County Board of Health, and she was the secretary/treasurer of the Reidsville Crisis Fund. She was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church and the Reidsville Rascalettes which is a widow organization within the church and was a member of the Easter Star.

Partially due to the fact that her son Gary passed away before the age of three, she unofficially adopted her nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews throughout her adult life. Her former Reidsville High School students and former employees of DFCS remember her as a strong teacher and leader who expected the best from students and employees. Family members will remember her as a matriarch of the family who delighted in keeping up with the achievements of her relatives and friends.
Ms. Sharpe is preceded in death by her husband, Carlyle H. Sharpe; son, Gary; sister, Corinne McCall; brother, Gene Rogers.
She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Sands and Christine Durrence both of Glennville.
Brother and sister-in-law, Azeph and Louise Rogers of Glennville. Foster brother and
sister-in-law, G.W. and Marvelle Thompson of Glennville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
