Charles Alvin Lynn, age 90, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2025. He heard the Lord whisper, “Your angel wings are ready,” and gently slipped away to his heavenly home following a brief illness, surrounded by his loving children and family.
Charles was born August 28, 1935, to the late James Alvin “A B” Lynn and Rebecca Martin Lynn. The second of nine children, Charles learned the values of hard work and responsibility early in life. At just 16 years old, he left school to help his family on the farm when his mother became ill. Determined to finish what he had started, he returned to school at age 17 and completed both his junior and senior years in a single year.
Shortly after graduation, Charles proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country honorably for 20 years. His distinguished military career included two tours in Vietnam, as well as service in Thailand and Korea. He retired from Fort Gordon and made Augusta his home.
Following his military service, Charles owned and operated Atlas Van Lines for several years before transitioning into a successful career in sales. Always a man of purpose, he set a personal goal of visiting all 50 states, a dream he fulfilled through his work as a commercial driver, proudly completing his lifelong goal.
Charles was a life member of the VFW and an accomplished master beekeeper with a deep passion for education and conservation. As a co-operator of Sasserfrass Hill Bee Farms, he worked alongside Deborah Sasser rescuing and relocating honeybee colonies throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. One of his most notable efforts included the successful rescue of a colony estimated at more than 100,000 bees from the steeple of Paine College’s Chapel, a colony that had lived there for over a decade. Using calm skill, smoke, and patience, Charles safely removed honeycombs filled with brood, honey, and pollen, ensuring the colony’s survival and relocation to their apiary.
Charles was frequently invited into schools, churches, and community programs to teach children and adults about the vital role bees play in pollination, the environment, and human health, as well as the healing properties of honey. He willingly mentored new beekeepers, helping them establish hives and care for their colonies. His belief was simple and steadfast, bees should be protected and never destroyed.
In his leisure time, Charles enjoyed fishing, searching for arrowheads, and faithfully watching the Army Navy football games. Above all, he cherished his family. Every six weeks, siblings gathered for food, fellowship, and spirited board games filled with laughter, good natured banter, and lasting memories. He loved sharing meals at Chatters, often texting family just minutes before arriving and insisting on buying lunch. His humor was legendary, his messages frequent, sometimes arriving in the early morning hours, and life around him was never dull. Full of laughter, stories, and jokes, Charles left behind countless memories, including one mystery he never revealed, why he refused to eat apples. A man of integrity, laughter, devotion, and quiet wisdom, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Bessie Lynn Moore, Margaret Lynn Hutcheson, Allen Lynn, Laura Lynn Tootle, and Annette Lynn Knowles; his grandson William Christopher Lynn; Wilma Jean Hutcheson, the mother of his children; and his second wife, Tina Martin Lynn.
Charles is survived by his three children, Jerry (Angel) Lynn of Graniteville, South Carolina; Charlene (Perry) Price of Augusta, Georgia; and Janet (Tony) Hutcheson of Collins, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Nicole Lynn of Augusta, Matthew Lynn of Augusta, Brittany (James) Center of Warrenville, South Carolina, Jannah (Damien) Brooks of Collins, Georgia, Tony (Heather) Hutcheson of Alexandria, Virginia, Trudie (Tim) Jones of Vidalia, Georgia, and Jarrod (Alaina) Hutcheson of Zelienople, Pennsylvania; fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnell Lynn Reese of Collins and Linda Lynn McDilda of Lyons; one brother, Wayne (Teena) Lynn of Collins; a devoted best friend, Wanda Warner; and many other relatives and friends.
