Charles Jan Scott, age 70, passed away on Thursday January, 25, 2024 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, GA. Jan was born in Lyons, GA to Charles and Uldean Singleton Scott.  He had lived most of his life in the Collins Community.

After graduating from Reidsville High School in 1971, Jan pursued a bachelor's degree in finance from Georgia Southern College. His thirst for knowledge and unwavering determination propelled him forward in life. Armed with his education, he embarked on a fulfilling career that spanned various fields.

Jan dedicated many years of his life as the manager of Joseph Evans Furniture. Simultaneously serving as the fire chief for the City of Collins highlighted Jan's selflessness and bravery. He fearlessly led his team through countless emergencies, ensuring the safety of his community.

Moreover, Jan achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first licensed paramedic in Tattnall County. His compassion and quick thinking provided comfort to those facing medical emergencies during their darkest hours. This accomplishment filled him with immense pride, and it solidified his dedication to making a positive impact on people's lives.

Outside of work, Jan found solace and joy in woodworking. His hands skillfully crafted exquisite pieces within the walls of his cherished workshop. The beauty he created with every stroke of the hammer or saw transcended mere craftsmanship.

Jan's contributions extended beyond his professional achievements. He selflessly served in the Georgia National Guard for six years, embodying loyalty and patriotism. His dedication to his country was unwavering, and his sacrifice will forever be remembered with gratitude.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Christopher Scott.

 He is survived by his loving wife, Lessie Barron of Collins, daughter, Angel Scott of Swainsboro, stepdaughter, Mindy (Joe) Moore of West Virginia, grandchildren: Lizzy Clark, Elliot Clark, and great-grandson Zander Clark. 

Jan's life will be celebrated during a visitation on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Collins Baptist Church on Live Oak Street in Collins, GA. Followed by a funeral service also held at Collins Baptist Church beginning at 3:00 PM with Reverend David Lamm officiating.  Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Collins Baptist Church where Jan was a longtime member.
