Chester Powell

Chester Powell, age 84, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Metter.   A native and lifelong resident of Collins, Chester was born on March 25, 1939, to Arthur and Lille Mae Wilson Powell.   He was a United States Army Veteran and had retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections.  After Mr. Chester retired from Corrections, he started refurbishing furniture and enjoyed working in his shop doing woodworking.   He always had a garden and enjoyed sharing his crops.  Mr. Chester was a member of Collins Baptist Church and is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Nancy Greene, Junior Powell, Tommy Powell, WA Powell, Felton Powell, Aaron Powell and Hugh Powell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Pansy Powell of Collins; sons, Patrick Powell and Travis Powell both of Collins; stepdaughters, Kathy Glisson of Glennville and Marsha (Bill) Waters of Claxton; sister, Bertie Mae (Paul) Jernigan of Collins; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00pm on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend David Lamm officiating.  The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30pm at the Cemetery.
