Clyde McCall Woolard, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 1, 1939, in Charlton County to Dayton Clyde and Estelle Woolard and had lived in Glennville most of his life.
A graduate of Charlton County High School, Clyde embarked on a career that would leave a lasting impact on Charlton County and beyond. From 1960 to 1968, he served with dedication as the Charlton County Clerk of Court, a role in which he was respected for his integrity and diligence. In 1969, Clyde made a pivotal move to Glennville where he demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit by building the town's first convenience store, originally named Flash Foods. His visionary approach saw the business rebranded as Clyde's Market, eventually expanding to 50 locations and employing 300 people, becoming a significant local enterprise and a testament to his hard work and leadership.
Beyond his professional achievements, Clyde was known as a very loving man whose proudest accomplishments revolved around his family. He made it a priority to attend every event involving his children and grandchildren, embodying the role of a supportive father and grandfather with heartfelt dedication.
Clyde’s interests were as varied as they were enriching. He enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, and gardening, pursuits that brought him joy and allowed him to cultivate both skill and serenity. He was also passionate about traveling and bird watching, activities that reflected his appreciation for nature and adventure.
Clyde was a longtime member of the Glennville Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and served as the substitute pianist. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dayton Clyde and Estelle Woolard; his wife of 63 years, Sylvia Jones Woolard and his sister, Faye Elizabeth Eason.
He is survived by his children, McCall and Kim Woolard, Greg and Angie Woolard, Michael and Rebecca Woolard, and Cindy and Neal Anderson all of Glennville; his grandchildren, Cole Woolard, Jake Woolard, Collin Woolard, Hanna and Austin Peterman, Evan and Brittany Woolard, Ella Anderson, Aiden Woolard, Ava Woolard, Milli Anderson, and Tristen Roberts
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the Glennville Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at noon at the Glennville Methodist Church with Reverend David Donnan officiating. Interment will be in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Cole Woolard, Collin Woolard, Jake Woolard, Evan Woolard, Aiden Woolard, Austin Peterman and Neal Anderson.
