Diane Sterrett Higgs, beloved mother, devoted Nana, and treasured friend, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, at the age of sixty six. Born on July 27, 1959 to Joseph and Joann Sterrett, Diane was raised in West Palm Beach Florida, where she developed the warm and welcoming spirit that would define her life.
Hardworking and dependable, Diane spent many years employed with Serta Mattress Company and Acosta Sales in West Palm Beach. Although she excelled in the corporate environment, her heart was firmly centered on caring for others. She eventually chose to open her home as the neighborhood babysitter, a role she embraced with joy and purpose. This calling allowed her to be fully present for her only daughter, Lindsay, whose days were filled with dance practices and performances, cheer competitions, and softball games. Diane devoted countless hours and miles to supporting her daughter and was always the first to volunteer as the taxi driver for every friend who needed a ride.
To know Diane was to feel welcomed. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone around her feel like family. If you loved her daughter, she loved you in return, and she happily adopted you into her heart.
Her greatest and most cherished role came in 2006 and again in 2011, when she became Nana. Nothing brought her more joy than her two grandsons. Being their Nana was the most fulfilling title she ever held, and she embraced it with a love that radiated through every part of her life. Whether singing or softly saying You Are My Sunshine, she made sure her daughter and her grandboys knew how deeply they were loved.
Diane was a woman of Christian faith and relied often on Scripture, especially Psalm 46 verse 10, Be still and know that I am God. This verse provided her with peace and strength throughout her life. Her presence brought joy, her love brought strength, and her memory will continue to inspire, and she will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Joann Sterrett.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Lindsay Bennett of Claxton, her grandsons, Trent Bennett of Statesboro and Brent Bennett of Reidsville, her sisters, Debbie and husband Tony McCuiston of Dayton Tennessee, Denise Weeks of Brooksville Florida, and Donna Storiale of Lake Worth Florida. Several other relatives and countless friends she made along life’s journey also survive.
Diane valued the love of her family more than anything in this world. Her immediate family gathered for a private ceremony of farewell on Thursday, December 4, 2025, honoring her life with the same devotion she so generously gave to others.
Low Country Cremation and Burial is honored to serve the family of Diane Sterrett Higgs.
