Don Jarriel, age 68, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia. He was born in Savannah on November 19, 1957, to Thurman Paul (TP) and Joann Kea Jarriel and had lived in Tattnall County most of his life.
A proud graduate of Reidsville High School, class of 1977, Don embarked on a remarkable career, dedicating 34 years to the Georgia Department of Corrections. His unwavering commitment and exemplary leadership saw him rise to the esteemed rank of Warden, where he was respected by colleagues and inmates alike. His ability to inspire and maintain order in challenging environments spoke volumes about his character and professionalism.
Don also served honorably in the Georgia Army National Guard for 12 years, demonstrating his commitment to service and his country. His military experience undoubtedly shaped his approach to leadership and instilled in him values of discipline and resilience.
Outside of his professional achievements, Don cherished his time spent outdoors, particularly enjoying the tranquility that came with fishing.
Don was of the Baptist faith and is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kay Jarriel of Collins; his children, Donald Jarriel of Sandersville, Devin Jarriel of Reidsville, Heather (Jason) Hayes and Logan Jarriel (Patrick) all of Reidsville; grandchildren, Jaedin Jarriel, Lauren Jarriel, Ethan Hipchen and Quince Hipchen; great grandson, Braxton Trey Jarriel
The family will receive friends 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 with the funeral services to follow at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with Dr. Charles Jonas officiating. Interment will be in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
