Edward Ross Lanier, affectionately known as "Mr. Ed," passed away on July 9, 2026. Born in Kissimmee, Florida in 1940, Ed lived many years in South Florida until making his home in Collins in 1996.
Ed's commitment to his country was unwavering; he was a proud United States Air Force veteran, with four years of active duty, who retired as a Master Sergeant from the reserves after 32 years of dedicated service. Throughout his distinguished career, he exemplified the values of professionalism, respect, and duty, setting an enduring example for those who served with him.
Beyond his military career, Edward's true joy was found in nature and in his community. He was well known for his passion for working in his yard and tending to his garden, especially his flowers. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. A keen bird watcher, he found beauty and peace in observing the wildlife around him. These were cherished pastimes that provided him with tranquility and a deep connection to the natural world.
Faith played an important role in Ed's life. He served as a Deacon at South Miami Heights Baptist Church and Rehoboth Baptist Church. Currently he was a devoted member of Collins Baptist Church, where he formed lasting friendships and found spiritual fulfillment.
Those who knew Ed remember him as outgoing and "always in a good mood." His kind and considerate nature touched many lives, leaving behind warm memories for all fortunate enough to have crossed his path.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Watson and Alice Cleo Barber Lanier and a sister, Barbra Kay Lanier Lively Nail.
Mr. Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Annette Lanier; children, Jason Edward Lanier of Collins and Caressa Ann Lanier of North Miami Beach, FL; brother, James Leo Lanier of Kissimmee, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 13, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow at noon with Reverend David Lamm officiating from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial. Interment will be in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
