Obituary
Elder Hugh Oliver age 73 passed away Sunday,
January 9, 2011 at Tattnall Health Care Center in
Reidsville. The Cobbtown native had lived in Collins
most of his life and was a US Navy Veteran serving
on the USS Wasp. He was the owner of Oliver Little
Builders and worked with the “Oliver Brothers.” Elder
Oliver was an Old Line Primitive Baptist Preacher
serving many Churches in the local area with his last
appointment at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church in
Collins. He loved to read and tend to his garden and was
preceded in death by his parents, Ivey and Dorothy Oliver;
sons, Brian and Matthew Justin Oliver; brothers, Calvin
and Wallace Oliver.
He is survived by h is wife of 52yrs, Mrs. Jean Oliver of Collins.
Daughters and son in law, Ida Sue and Carlos Barrow, Jr. of
Claxton, Misena Anne Womble of Hagan. Brothers, Wendell and
Kenneth Oliver both of Collins. Sisters, Patsy Driggers of Collins,
Marlene Sanders of Cobbtown, Linda Mae Hodges of Daisy
Mountain, TN. Three grandchildren, Stephen Elisha Barrow, Hannah
Elissa Barrow and Sarah Elizabeth Womble. Numerous nieces and
nephews also survive.
Visitation and Funeral Services
Visitation will begin at 6:00pm on Tuesday from the Reidsville Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Wednesday, January 12,
2011 from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home
with the Reverend Marty Walker officiating and Elder Dan Strickland will
share thoughts of remembrances. Interment will follow in the Little Flock
Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with honors rendered by the US Navy.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Walsh, Derek Barrow, John Womble, Houston
Hodges and Marty Oliver and Stephen Barrow.
