In Loving Memory of Elizabeth Louise “Betty Lou” Bryl, age 73, passed away on July 8, 2025, under the care of Friends of Caroline Hospice. She was born on January 27, 1952 to Charles and Julia Horst in McKeesport, PA. She lived in several different states before making her home in Bluffton, SC 15 years ago. She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Sarah Bryl of Bluffton, her dog Bear, four sisters, several in-laws, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Daniel, and her daughter Jessica, along with her parents, her Gram, and many family members. There was a wonderful reunion at the pearly gates to welcome Betty home! Betty was a faithful and dedicated member of the Church of the Cross in Bluffton.
Those who knew Betty remember her for her kindness, caring, generosity and love to all whom she met. Betty worked various jobs before retiring. For the past 12 years she volunteered at the God’s Goods Thrift Store, which she greatly enjoyed. That is also where she met many special friends who will truly miss her and always treasure their fond memories of Betty. She also had a remarkable talent for baking desserts for the many gatherings she attended with her friends. Her raspberry cake was their favorite!
Along with her God’s Goods Gang of Friends, Betty will be missed by the many friends she and Dan met through The Compassionate Friends in Georgia and her lifelong friends in Michigan.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Saint Francis D’Assisi Church in Detroit, MI, where she and Dan married in 1973. She will be buried alongside Dan and Jessica at St. Hedwig’s Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, MI. A celebration of life will be held at The Church of The Cross in Bluffton on Friday, September 12, 2025.
