Georgia Jean Crumpler

Georgia Jean Heyde Crumpler, 95, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, with family by her side, under the compassionate care of Buckingham South Assisted Living and Pruitt Hospice. She was born May 26, 1931, in Grand Island, Nebraska to George and Lydia Heyde, and was a graduate of Grand Island High School, class of 1949. She was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice and during high school was chosen as top singer in the State Music and Singers Contest. After high school, she enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War as a cryptographer for the Air Force Headquarters Communications Center in the Pentagon, Washinton, D.C. Desiring to be able to use her gift and love of music in her service, she auditioned and was chosen to be the female soloist for the Air Force Band, but due to the critical and sensitive nature of her pentagon assignment, her request for reassignment was denied. She was later chosen to participate in the Air Force "Singing Sergeants." After discharge, she continued to share her passion and gift of music as a member and soloist of several church choirs. While working at the Pentagon, she met and married Harold Crumpler, to whom she was married for 71 years until his death in 2023. She and Harold moved to Savannah in 1998, after his retirement. She was a member of White Bluff Presbyterian Church, where she served in the church choir, and was a member of the Fellowship Committee, Presbyterian Women Circle, and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was also an avid master bridge player and loved gardening. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Marilyn Heyde Young. She is survived by her three children, Debra Edwards (Dan), Bradley Crumpler (Jane), and Laurie Hartman (Chuck); five grandchildren, Lauren Murray (Dayne) Austin Crumpler (Beth), Jordan Edwards, Logan Cirincioni (Tim), and Lydia Wheat (Will); and six great grandchildren, Simon Cirincioni, Layna Murray, Arol Cirincioni, Maya Murray, Elsie Wheat, and Loftin Wheat. 

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 16, 2026, at White Bluff Presbyterian Church, 10710 White Bluff Road, Savannah, Georgia, at 2:00p.m. with the Reverend Doctor John Ruehl officiating.
