Geraldine Elaine Edwards Colwell Polk was born on December 26, 1946, in Reidsville, Georgia, to the late Elizabeth M. Edwards and Rufus Lamar Edwards. From an early age, she was instilled with strong values, deep faith, and a heart devoted to serving others.
On February 27, 2026, at 5:44 p.m., Geraldine peacefully transitioned at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. While our hearts mourn her absence, we rejoice in knowing she is resting in the eternal presence of the Lord.
Geraldine was a devoted educator and nurturer. In Georgia, she dedicated her early professional years to teaching children from Head Start through Pre-K. She had a special gift for working with young children, offering patience, guidance, and love that helped shape many young lives.
After relocating to Jacksonville, Florida, she continued her life of service as a Home Care Social Worker for many years. Serving others was not just her profession — it was her calling.
Geraldine’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a faithful member of Springfield Baptist Church in Georgia before moving to Jacksonville. After relocating, she became a devoted member of The Potter’s House International Ministries in Jacksonville, Florida, under the leadership of Bishop Vaughn McLaughlin and Lady Arlene McLaughlin. She was a praying woman who boldly declared God’s protection over her life and family. Her faith was not just spoken — it was lived daily.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her grandparents, Minnie Lewis and Neal Mobley; her parents, Elizabeth M. Edwards and Rufus Lamar Edwards; her infant brother, Donald Edwards; her nephew, Barry Bell; and her nephew, Malik Sykes.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving children, Maurice Lamar Edwards and Cherrie C. Wright.
She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Ashly Marie Wright, Victoria LeVette Wright, and Johnnie LaJuan Jackson III. She is also survived by her beloved brothers and sisters: Bernard & (Carol) Mobley, Maurice & (Diedra) Mobley, Roland “Bobo” & (Torshia) Edwards, and Beverly Pollock. Her legacy continues through her cherished nieces and nephews: Ellis Jones, Eric Jones, Bernard Mobley, Vikki & (Roger) Corey, Tracey & (Derius) Thompson, Lakesia & (Charles) Thompson, Eugene Edwards, Rico Thompson, Quiana Martin (Horatio Sr.), Mario Thompson, Tiffany Byrd, Celisa Cole, and Jamison Pollock.
