Hubert “Harold” Crumpler, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, March 24, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Sampson County, North Carolina to Hubert and Hattie Crumpler and graduated from Roseboro High School, Roseboro, NC. He was also a graduate of Wake Forest University and completed post graduate study at King’s Business College and the Life Insurance Office Management Institute.

After graduation from Wake Forest, he enlisted in the United States Air Force at the beginning of the Korean War and served as cryptographer for the Air Force Headquarters in the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. where he met his future wife Georgia Jean Heyde. He was reassigned to Korea where he served to encode and decode messages for the Korean Armistice Committee to be transmitted to and from the Pentagon. After his discharge from the Air Force, he worked for forty-three years for various life, accident, and health insurance companies where he served in different executive positions, retiring in 1997 as President of United Security Life Insurance Company, Jackson, Mississippi.

He was an active member and elder of White Bluff Presbyterian Church, where he served on committees for Christian Education, Audit, Pastor Nomination, and Chaired the Finance and Capital Funds Committee.

He was predeceased by his parents, as well as brothers Thomas Payton Crumpler, Aubrey Crumpler, and Carl Crumpler. In addition to his wife of 71 years, he is survived by his 3 children, Debra C. Edwards (Dan) of Acworth, GA, Bradley H. Crumpler (Jane) of Asheboro, NC, and Laurie C. Hartman (Chuck) of Savannah; 5 grandchildren, Lauren Murray (Dayne), Austin Crumpler (Beth), Jordan Edwards, Logan Cirincioni (Tim), and Lydia Wheat (Will); and 4 great-grandchildren, Layna and Maya Murray, and Simon and Arlo Cirincioni, as well as his sisters Hazel McEntire of Fort Worth, TX. And Joanna Matthis of Clinton NC.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 at White Bluff Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend John Rhuel officiating. Visitation with the family will be at the church at 1:00 p.m.

Remembrances: in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to White Bluff Presbyterian Church, 10710 White Bluff Rd., Savannah, GA 31406, or, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
