Iola (Hendrix) Conley

Mrs. Iola Conley, age 82, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Ogeechee Hospice. She was born in Claxton on December 17, 1940, to Willie Clyde and Annie Blanche Dees Hendrix and had lived in Evans County all her life. Mrs. Iola was a homemaker but had a passion for many hobbies, including creating beautiful items with her sewing machine. She was known for her exceptional talent in sewing and would spend countless hours perfecting her craft. Mrs. Iola also found joy in pulling weeds and planting flowers in her garden, where she would meticulously care for each plant.  Babysitting was another talent that came from the heart, where she would show her love and affection to the children in her care. With her warm and welcoming nature, Mrs. Iola was always happy to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and she cherished the special bonds she formed with each child she cared for. Additionally, she enjoyed exploring the outdoors and traveling. Among her favorite places, she loved to travel to the mountains and walk the streets of Cherokee. Countless summer days were spent enjoying the roller coaster at Santa’s Land and her time spent at Ghost Town. She would always joke around and say she wanted to be buried at the huge cemetery on the edge of Taco Falls. During hot summer days, she could often be found at Jekyll Island with friends and family.  Mrs. Iola was a member of Hagan Baptist Church and is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Harry Conley.

Mrs. Iola is survived by her husband of 57 years, Junior Conley of Hagan; her daughter and sons-in-law, Karen and Marty Strickland of Franklin, NC, Pennie and Jesse DeLoach of Claxton and Christie and Casey Kirkland of Hagan; daughter-in-law, Danett Conley of Claxton; sister, Gloria Hendrix of Bulloch County; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 6, 2023, with the funeral services to follow at 2:00 pm, all from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial.

Interment will follow in the Brewton Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Reynolds, Daniel Reynolds, Jacob Conley, Luke Conley, Mark Hendrix, and Ronnie Cason.

Low Country Cremation and Burial is serving the Conley family.
