Jack McLean

January 9, 1943 — June 4, 2024

Claxton

Mr. John Arthur “Jack” McLean, Jr., age 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. Born on January 9, 1943, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to John Arthur and Henriette McLean, Jack spent many years in Savannah before settling in Claxton in 1997.  Jack was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, class of 1961. A dedicated U.S. Air
Force veteran, he later retired from BellSouth after 31 years of service. Known for his remarkable memory, Jack could recall birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions with astounding accuracy, a testament to his sharp mind. His intellect was matched by
his knack for "tinkering." Jack had an innate ability to improve the form and function of various items, constantly seeking ways to enhance them. In his leisure time he enjoyed traveling and camping across the US, pursuits he enjoyed as often as possible. However, his greatest passion was his love for his family and friends. Even as his health declined, he found joy on his tractor. He would ask his family and friends to help him ride one more time. Jack was a patriot who worked tirelessly and loved deeply, filling each day of his life with meaning and purpose. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Frances Todd McLean of Claxton; sons and daughter in law, Todd McLean of Minnesota, and Trevor and Gara McLean of Savannah; his mother, Henriette McLean of Minnesota; siblings, Bob McLean of Wisconsin, Suzanne (Leo) Switala of Minnesota, and Mike (Royetta) McLean of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Madison and Brady McLean; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm on Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with Mr. Rick Monroe officiating.
