James Wallace “Jim” Benton May 26, 1941 – September 5, 2025
James Wallace “Jim” Benton, 84, of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Jim was born on May 26, 1941, in Tallassee, Alabama, to the late JW and Evelyn James Benton. During his childhood, his family moved to Hawkinsville, Georgia, where he spent his early years. After graduating, Jim proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country with dedication and honor. Following his military service, Jim took time to travel and explore many parts of the United States before returning home to Tallassee, where he built a life with his beloved wife, Sylvia. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Jim was happiest outdoors—whether in the woods hunting or on the water fishing. His greatest joy, however, came from time spent with his family. His quiet strength, love of nature, and devotion to family will be remembered always. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Evelyn Benton; his wife, Sylvia Benton; and his brother, Danny Benton.
Jim is survived by his sister, Brenda Crosby of Glennville; his daughters, Laura Williams (Tim) of Gastonia, NC. and Lisa Taunton (Donald) of Tallassee, AL; son, Jeff Baker (Christina) of AL; his grandsons; great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory.
Services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with the Reverend Blake Westbrook officiating.
