James Gansrow, age 60, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2025.

James was born with a compassionate spirit and a genuine love for learning. He began his professional life as a chef after graduating from Johnson & Wales Culinary Institute in Rhode Island. Although he excelled in the culinary world, he felt called to pursue a different passion and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Albany University followed by a Master’s Degree from Stony Brook University. He went on to become a devoted history and economics teacher, a role in which he found his true purpose. His principal described him as a bright light who touched lives in meaningful and lasting ways.

James lived a life guided by empathy and quiet generosity. He never hesitated to offer encouragement, mentorship, or a helping hand. He served as a role model to many of his students, several of whom went on to achieve great success. His compassion extended far beyond the classroom as he dedicated time to outreach programs supporting individuals and communities facing poverty, including meaningful efforts in Africa.

Jim enjoyed a wide range of interests, including golfing, playing tennis, singing, scrapbooking, photography, and creating personalized greeting cards. Among his favorite pastimes were cooking, teaching others how to cook, and cheering for his beloved Ohio State football team. Despite the health challenges he faced in recent years, he met each day with determination and positivity. When difficulties arose, he often reminded others, “It’s all gravy,” a reflection of his belief that hardships were temporary and brighter days always followed.

He will be remembered for his warm smile, thoughtful conversations, sense of humor, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people. His impact on those around him is immeasurable, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him.

Survivors include his siblings, Michael, Martin, Laura, Timothy, Joseph, and Steven; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who remember him as a fun-loving, generous presence and a steady source of support.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
