Marcus James Padgett, Jr., age 81, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. He was born on May 12, 1940 in Glennville to Marcus and Theodocia Kicklighter Padgett and had lived in Garden City since 1964. He was an US Air Force Veteran and was retired from B & L Express Trucking. James loved his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and found his strength in their service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching westerns with his wife Betty and he had served as High Priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Padgett of Garden City; his children, James Padgett of Glennville, Julie Miller of Rincon, Janeen Day (John) of Richmond Hill, Jason Padgett of Richmond Hill, Jared (Joy) Padgett of Guyton and Joseph Padgett of Rincon; siblings, Larry (Linda) Padgett of Glennville and Betty Washburn of Utah; Aunts, Juanita (Marlon) Moody of Glennville and Theda Ward of Maryland; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 2, 2021 with the funeral services to follow at 11:30am from the Chapel of the Glennville Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Pigot Branch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dylan Padgett, Albert Day IV, Jaden Day, Landon Padgett, Chris Washburn, Jeremy Washburn and Steve Washburn.
