Jean DeLoach Porte, age 70, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026, at her home in Claxton. The Evans County native was born on August 17, 1955, to Carlos and Martha Jane Holland DeLoach and had lived in Evans and Tattnall Counties all of her life.
Throughout her life, Jean devoted herself to her work, particularly in food service, which she pursued for many years. Her career was distinguished by her commitment and her personal touch, especially during her long tenure at Sandwich Depot. More recently, Jean brought her strong work ethic and sunny disposition to Rotary Corporation. In each role, she was admired by both colleagues and customers alike, leaving a mark that is fondly remembered.
Beyond her professional achievements, Jean found true joy in her favorite pastimes. She spent many peaceful hours fishing, finding solace and contentment by the water’s edge. But above all, Jean treasured time with her family. The bonds she nurtured were deeply important to her, and every gathering was made brighter by her presence, laughter, and steadfast love.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Kermit, Jack, Joe, John L., Lonnie, Larry, Charles, and Otis DeLoach; stepdaughter, Ellen Bolen.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey Porte of Claxton; children, Anthony (Amber) Smith of Glennville, Talia Herrin (Sam Davis) of Collins, Ashley Smith of Claxton, and Amanda Smith (Michael Holland) of Claxton; stepchildren, Ron Smith (Whitney) of Claxton, Rhonda (Danny) DeLoach of Denmark, Harvey Porte, Jr. of Greenville, SC, Susan Porte of Georgetown, SC; sister, Wanda Rowe of Hagan; 21 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 18, 2026, beginning at 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Sunday, July 19, 2026, from the chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial. Interment will follow in the Canoochee Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Smith, Trevor Herrin, Trenton Herrin, Tyler Smith, Logan Smith, and Landon Smith.
