Jimmy W. Hattaway, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. The lifelong Tattnall County resident was born in Metter on August 8, 1943, to Cleo A. "Red" and Evelyn Hattaway.
A 1961 graduate of Reidsville High School, Jimmy built a life marked by hard work, faith, and a warm, outgoing spirit. He worked for many years at Georgia Hi-Tech Fabrication as an inspector and later retired from Georgia Correctional Industries, where he worked in the sign shop at Smith State Prison. Those who knew him will remember a man who took pride in his work and carried himself with friendliness and sincerity.
Jimmy was an outgoing man who enjoyed the things he loved with enthusiasm. He was an avid golfer and also had a deep love for baseball, the Georgia Bulldogs, and Nascar. His faith was an important part of his life, and one of his proudest accomplishments was serving as a Deacon at Reidsville Baptist Church, a role that reflected his commitment to his church and community.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Felishia Finch and a grandson, Cleo James.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Pat Hattaway of Reidsville; son and daughter in law, Woody and Stephanie Hattaway of Vidalia; sister and brother in law, Annette and Ray Blount of Vidalia; step daughter, Gina (Shane) Martin of Jasper, GA; grandchildren, Krystal (Chris) Hayes of Collins, Taylor (Lance) Lawrence, and Tanner Hattaway all of Vidalia; great grandchildren, Maddox Reddish and Findley Parker Lawrence; step grandchildren, Danielle Norris and Amber (Jordan) Hartley; step great grandchildren, Baylor and Cambell; nephew, Barry (Julie) Blount of NC and Julie (Keith) Spivey of Vidalia; several great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with Dr. Charles Jonas officiating. Interment will be in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the Reidsville Baptist Church.
