George “Joe” Fowler, age 79, passed away on February 3, 2026. He was born on September 11, 1946, in South Carolina to Walter Marion Fowler and Rachel Barbee Fowler. Following formative years in Carolina, his career began as a meat cutter, a trade he worked in for several years before going on to serve in the U.S. Army. His service to America would send him across the world where he would bravely serve in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, Joe would move to Reidsville and make Tattnall County his home in 1974, where he built a life rooted in dedication, faith, and community. Upon his arrival in the state, he would go on to work with Georgia Department of Corrections until he was able to fulfill his lifelong labor of love, farming. Joe and his beloved wife Virginia purchased and operated a poultry farm and hay business full time.
For many years, the couple were best known for their cherished local restaurant, Joe’s Kountry Kettle, a gathering place for the community where friends and neighbors from across the area came together to share stories, laughter, and some of the best breakfast and lunch around. More than just a restaurant, it was a welcoming space that reflected Joe and Virginia’s hospitality and became a second home to many who walked through its doors. Joe was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church and had a deep passion for old tractors. Above all, he loved his dogs and treasured the simple joys of country living.
Joe was a steady presence, a loyal friend, and a kind soul who touched many lives through his quiet generosity and strong work ethic; he will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Sidney and Frieda Fowler, Babe Fowler, and Wilbur and Peggy Fowler; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rachel and Ed Cole, and Kate and Walter Strickland; as well as three nephews and one niece.
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories is his beloved wife of 58 years, Virginia Fowler; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 6, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the chapel of Low Country Cremation & Burial.
