John Ellis Rewis

John Ellis Rewis, age 85, passed away on January 20, 2024, at Community Hospice in Vidalia. He was born on October 9, 1938, in Tattnall County and had lived in Collins most of his life.  John served in the United States Air Force with distinction, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. His military service showcases his selflessness and dedication to serving his country. Throughout his career, John worked tirelessly as an administrator and eventually retired from Georgia Pacific. 

John's true happiness came from spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. He cherished every moment spent with them and created wonderful memories that will be treasured forever. In addition to his role as a devoted family man, John had a variety of hobbies and interests that brought him joy. One of his favorite pastimes was picking up pecans, an activity that allowed him to connect with nature and appreciate the simple pleasures in life. John also had a passion for collecting intriguing things such as coins and knives. 

John's proudest accomplishment was being a dedicated member of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Holiness Church in Collins. His faith guided him through all aspects of life, providing strength and solace during difficult times. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Conway Rewis and Lottie Mae Oliver Powell, as well as his brother Edward Rewis.

John is survived by his children Lawrence J. (Kim Renbeck) Rewis of Arizona, Robin D. (Kim Lee) Sadosky of Kissimmee, FL, Steven Rewis of Orlando, FL, Dawn (Marc) Floyd of Collins, Michelle Lynn (Brian) Hagan of Pooler, and Sean K. Rewis of Augusta; siblings, Willodean Kersey of Port Wentworth, Carolyn Oliver, Barbara Ann (Don) Holland all of Collins, George Ernest Collins of Reidsville, and James Philip Collins of Collins; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am on Wednesday, January 23, 2024, at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Holliness Church with the funeral services to follow at 11:00am with Reverend Greg Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
