Reidsville GA,
John Jackson (Jack) Smith, Jr., age 59, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 9, 2020 after an extended illness. The Claxton native lived most of his life in Evans County, moving to Reidsville in 2015. Upon his relocation to Tattnall County, he went to work with the Tattnall County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator. A great asset to Tattnall County, Jack has been an operator for most of his adult life building everything from major highways to airport construction. Although very talented in his career, he loved his free time and the opportunity to get outdoors. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman. Many hunting buddies and family alike recount his days running dogs or hunting hogs on night hunts. Of all the things he loved, his family held his heart. While the boys were playing sports, he would always make a way to be at the games even as he held a full time and demanding job. Jack truly was a man among men, and he will be missed deeply by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his wife, Ruth Ann “Dolly” Smith of Reidsville; two sons, Jason (Shelbie) Smith of Claxton and Cody (Cheyanne) Smith of Collins; two brothers, Gene Smith of Claxton and Junior (Angie) Brown of Collins; two sisters, Glenda Smith of Collins and Judy Brown of Vidalia; three grandchildren, Jase, Casidy, and Connor Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends also survive.
