Lamar Smith

Mr. Lamar Smith 73 passed away September 15, 2023 at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, New Jersey after a brief illness.

He was born March 8, 1950 in Tattnall County, Reidsville, Ga. to Mrs. Catherine Smith and the late Herschel Smith. His paternal grandparents, the late Mr. Brad and Mrs. Janie Smith, his maternal grandparents Mr. Lester and Jade Mae Costen. At an early age under the pastoral Leadership of the late Rev. J. R. Rice, Lamar made a spiritual commitment to God and joined Bethel A.M.E. Church, Collins, Ga. He attended Tattnall Elementary School in Reidsville, Ga. And graduated High School in 1969 from Tattnall Industrial High, Reidsville, Ga. After graduation he moved to Bronx, New York and later to Teaneck, New Jersey.

He was preceded in death by his father Mr. Herschel Smith, two brothers Mr. Jerome Smith and Mr. Benjamin Smith. Lamar is survived by his mother Mrs. Catherine Smith of Teaneck, New Jersey, three brothers Mr. Quinton Smith of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Mr. Donnie Smith and Mr. Clifford Smith of Teaneck, New Jersey; Two nephews Mr. Rolland Smith of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Mr. Allan Smith of Long Island, New York; One niece Ms. JaneIle Smith of Long Island, New York; Five aunts Mrs. Julie (Lyman) Bailey of Atlanta Ga., Mrs. Frances (Alphonso) Borden of Englewood, New Jersey, Mrs. Jesse (William) Goodman of Elmont, New York, Ms. Evelyn Costen of Reidsville, Ga. And Mrs. Helen (Alton) McKinnon of Collins, Ga.; One uncle Mr. Willis Costen of Collins, Ga. and a special cousin Mr. Herman Smith of Collins, Ga.; and a host of loving relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 29th from 5-6:00 pm, at Low Country Cremation & Burial, Reidsville, Ga. Funeral Services Saturday 30th @ 11:00 am at Bethel AME Church, Collins, Ga.

Interment: Ogden Mill Cemetery, Reidsville, Ga.
