February 26, 1948 — February 7, 2026

Claxton

Mrs. Laura S. Waters, age 77 of Claxton passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026 after a sudden illness at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, surrounded by her family. Throughout her life, she was a homemaker and then went to work for the Evans County School system in the lunchroom where she retired. But her most cherished role was that of a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She will be remembered by her family with being the best mama, grandma and great-grandma that God could have ever blessed us with. She will also be remembered for her sweet smile, funny sense of humor, humble heart, and the love that she had for her Lord, her family, and her friends. She was a “Mother Figure” to many throughout the years.

Her hobbies were working in her flowers, watching her hummingbirds, doing her word search books, reading her bible, reading to her great-grandchildren, talking on the phone to Mrs. Gail, Mrs. Kathy, Karen, Aunt Donna, and watching her 2 favorite TV shows, Charles Stanley and Judge Judy.

Laura is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Waters; her father, Buel H. (Black) Strickland; her mother, Avis Pope Strickland and her infant sister, Linda Strickland.

Laura is survived by her daughter, Avis Peek and her husband, Michael of Lyons; 3 grandchildren, Emily Strom and her husband, Zack of Lyons, Michaela Allen and her husband, Graham of Woodstock and Noah Peek and his wife, Kenlee of Coupeville, Washington; 2 great-grandchildren, Saylor Strom and Easton Strom; brother, Jake Strickland and his wife, Donna of Vidalia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her legacy of unconditional love, generosity and compassion will live on in the lives of her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her devotion to her family and her gift of making everyone feel loved.

Family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am on Thursday, February 12, 2026 with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00am from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial. Services will conclude at the chapel.
