Lavonne "Polly" Moody, age 86, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026 at her residence under the care of her family and under the care of hospice. She was born in Hortense on February 22, 1940 to Ike and Courtney Moody and had lived in Glennville since 1972. A devoted healthcare professional and a cherished member of her community, Polly's life was marked by dedication, faith, and a love for her family.
Polly began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Dr. Curtis Hames Medical Office, where she served many years with compassion and skill. Demonstrating an impressive commitment to her profession, she obtained her Registered Nurse (RN) license at the age of 52. Following this achievement, she worked at the Men's Detention Center in Claxton, where she rose to the position of Supervisor before her retirement. Her colleagues and those in her care remembered her kindness and leadership.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Polly was a woman of deep faith. She found great joy and purpose in talking about her Jesus, reading the Bible, and being an active member of her church, Gospel Baptist Church. Her devotion to her spiritual life was one of her proudest accomplishments and a cornerstone of her identity.
Polly’s love extended to her family, where she was a treasured mother and grandmother. Her nurturing presence and loving nature left lasting memories for all who knew her.
She had a passion for travel, cherishing the adventures she experienced on cruises and bus trips across the country. Alongside her wanderlust, Polly was an avid reader, finding pleasure in books that enriched her mind and spirit.
Polly is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe "Teapot" Moody; grandson, Charles G. Murphy, Jr and 12 siblings.
She is survived by her sons and daughter in law, Charles G. and Janice Murphy, Sr. of Douglas and Douglas H. Murphy of Glennville; grandsons, Bradford T. Murphy of Patterson and Douglas S. Murphy of Jesup; 5 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00am with the funeral services to follow at noon on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from the Chapel of the Glennville Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Gay officiating. Interment will be in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
