Lewis Harris

Lewis Harris entered his eternal home on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the age of 62.  He was born on May 5th, 1961, to Percy and Ina Gaffney-Harris. Lewis was a man whose life was marked by simplicity, love, laughter, and a tireless dedication to his family.  Lewis's journey in life took shape as he graduated from the Job Corps program, where he learned the masonry trade. His dedication to mastering his craft was a testament to his unwavering work ethic. To know Lewis was to love him, as his warm heart and infectious sense of humor endeared him to all who crossed his path.

 

As a provider for his family, Lewis excelled, dedicating years of his life as a brick mason, leaving behind structures that will stand as a testament to his skill and dedication. Later in life, he would spend over 20 years with Claxton Poultry, contributing to the growth and success of the company.

 

Beyond his professional life, Lewis was a devoted farmer, raising goats with the same diligence he applied to his work. His connection to the land and his animals brought him joy, and he shared that joy with those around him. His love for the simple pleasures of life was reflected in his everyday actions.

 

Lewis's journey through life was shaped by his love for his family. He cherished his role, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him best. He is preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Ina Gaffney-Harris, his brother, Roger Harris, as well as his paternal grandparents, Vonnie and Mildred Harris, and maternal grandmother, Marie Gaffney.  In his quiet yet impactful way, Lewis Harris touched the lives of many, he will be fondly remembered for his dedication to his family, his unwavering commitment to kindness, and the warmth he brought to all who knew him, he will be sorely missed.

 

Left to cherish memories of a life well lived is his devoted wife, Gloria Harris; a son Sam Eaddy; four daughters, Laura Glanton, Cindy Mobley-Smalls, Gloria Mobley, and Cynthia (Keith) Wright; two brothers, Lawrence (Teresa) Harris and Percy Harris II; a sister, Edna (Conrad) Harris-Strong; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; five cousin who were more like brothers, Nelson Collins, Orell Collins, Mike Collins, Vonnie Harris, III, Robert Sharpe, Sr., and Cleveland Sharpe, Sr.; s special nephew, Terrell Gaffney; a host of nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends also survive.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the chapel of Low Country Cremation & Burial.

 

A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday September 23, 2023, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the chapel of Low Country Cremation & Burial.

 

Interment will follow at Ogden Mill Cemetery.
