Lucy Jarriel

Lucy Carol Strickland Jarriel passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the Langdale Place in Valdosta, Georgia. It is with love and gratitude that we remember Lucy and her beautiful life.

Lucy was born in Tattnall County on May 3, 1935, to Lavie and Johnny Strickland. Lucy grew up enjoying family, and she deeply cherished her siblings, Nelle, Johnette and Rick Strickland. She graduated in 1953 from Collins High School, then met and married Bobby Jarriel shortly after on December 22, 1953.

They moved to Isle of Hope, Savannah where he was employed with IBM. She and Bobby returned to Collins, where she spent most of her life. She owned a florist business and was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church of Collins.

Those who knew Lucy knew how much she loved to laugh and find humor in everyday life. Her home was a revolving door of welcomed guests in search of a delicious meal, sage advice, or simply good company. Lucy found her greatest joy in her family and friends, and she leaves behind countless stories and treasured memories.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Winston Jarriel; her beloved granddaughter, Katie Belle Jarriel; her sisters, Nelle and Johnette Strickland; and half-siblings, Kitty, and Theron Strickland.

She is survived by her two loving children, Phil (Paula) Jarriel of Collins and Jennifer (Joey) Sands of Valdosta; brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Suzanne Strickland of Collins; her five grandchildren, Hensley (Hayley) Jarriel, Julia Sands, Kylie (Casey) Spivey, Trey Sands, and Emily (Duncan) Connelly; and five great-grandchildren, Eli and Lincoln Jarriel, Wolfe, Winnie, and Bodhi Spivey

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 25, 2026 beginning at 1:00pm with the funeral to follow at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Collins with the Reverend David Lamm officiating. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
