Dr. Pastor Carmen Mendez—a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and the Pastor and Founder of Iglesia de Dios es el Poder—passed away peacefully at her home in Hinesville, GA, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 3:27 PM. She was 62 years old and was surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 27, 1963, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to the late Gilberto Maldonado and Ana Maria Colón, she spent her childhood in both Puerto Rico and New York City. Carmen lived in New York City until the age of 19. On July 27, 1982, she married her high school sweetheart, Demetrio Mendez. Four months later, in November 1982, she followed her husband as he began his military career. Carmen’s greatest passion was serving the Lord. Raised in the church by her paternal grandmother, her faith deepened after moving to the Bronx, New York, where she attended Iglesia Arca de Refugio, pastored by Felix Cintrón. At a young age, she gave her life to Christ and began serving as a children’s ministry teacher. This marked the beginning of a lifelong devotion to ministry. With every new military duty station, Carmen's calling grew stronger. Her priority at each new location was always to find a church home for her family. Each church became a place of preparation, a training ground for the greater calling ahead. God continuously gave her grace and favor, allowing her to work closely alongside the pastors she encountered. In 1999, the Mendez family was stationed once again at Ft. Stewart, GA. It was there that Carmen received the call to pastor. Though she didn’t know where to start, she trusted God to lead the way. He brought people into her life to help guide her through the streets of Claxton, GA. On Sunday, November 14, 1999, Pastors Mendez opened their first church, Tabernáculo Faro de Dios, in Claxton. They pastored there for three years, relocating only due to military orders transferring them to Ft. Hood, Texas. After fulfilling their time in Texas, the Mendez family eventually retired there before returning to Georgia in 2005. Once again, Carmen felt the call to pastor. She prayed for confirmation, and God answered with a scripture: Psalm 62:11 – "God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.” From that scripture, the church’s name was born: Iglesia de Dios: De Dios es el Poder. Its doors first opened on January 8, 2006. It has been twenty-five years since she first accepted her pastoral calling—years filled with sacrifice, dedication, and unwavering faith. Carmen was a living testimony of a true warrior of God, one who never threw in the towel because she trusted that her Trainer—God—would tell her when the fight was finished. And on May 18, 2025, He said: "It’s time to throw that last punch. It’s time to come home." 2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and loving husband of 42 years, Demetrio Mendez; her children, Jesus Mendez, Edgar Mendez, and Anne-Marie Mendez-Street (Wintford Street); her grandchildren, Israel Mendez, Elisabeth Mendez, and Malachi Street; her siblings, Rafael Maldonado, Julio Martinez, and Gilberto Maldonado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Glennville Funeral Home, located at 403 W Barnard St, Glennville, GA 30427. Public viewing will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a farewell service at 12:30 PM. The procession to her graveside burial will depart at 2:45 PM, with burial at 3:00 PM at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 US-301, Glennville, GA 30427.

Pallbearers will be Jesus Mendez, Edgar Mendez, Israel Mendez, Rafael Maldonado, Julio Martinez, and Gilberto Maldonado.

Con profundo amor y fe en la promesa eterna, anunciamos que la Dra. Pastora CARMEN MÉNDEZ —esposa devota, madre y abuela entregada, pastora incansable, fundadora de la Iglesia de Dios es el Poder y fiel sierva del Altísimo— fue llamada a la presencia del Señor el domingo 18 de mayo de 2025, a las 3:27 de la tarde, en la paz de su hogar. Partió rodeada del amor de su familia, con 62 años de una vida vivida en plenitud, marcada por la gracia y la fidelidad. Nacida el 27 de marzo de 1963 en San Juan, Puerto Rico, hija de sus padres recordados Gilberto Maldonado y Ana María Colón. Su infancia transcurrió entre Puerto Rico y la ciudad de Nueva York. Criada en la iglesia por su abuela paterna, su fe, se profundizó tras mudarse al Bronx, Nueva York, donde asistió a la Iglesia Arca de Refugio, pastoreada por el Pastor Félix Cintrón. A temprana edad entregó su vida a Cristo y comenzó a servir como maestra del ministerio infantil. Allí, desde muy joven, entregó su corazón al Señor y comenzó a servir en el ministerio infantil, sin imaginar que ese sencillo “sí” marcaría el inicio de toda una vida consagrada al Reino. El 27 de julio de 1982, se unió en matrimonio con su amor de juventud, Demetrio Méndez, quien sería su fiel compañero de vida y ministerio por más de cuatro décadas. Juntos emprendieron un camino que los llevó por distintos destinos militares, pero en cada lugar, Carmen buscaba primero el Reino de Dios. Su anhelo siempre fue encontrar un lugar donde su familia pudiera adorar y crecer espiritualmente. Con cada traslado militar, el llamado de Carmen se fortalecía; cada congregación fue un altar de formación, un lugar de preparación, un terreno de entrenamiento donde Dios le dio gracia para servir con excelencia y humildad. En 1999, durante una asignación en Ft. Stewart, Georgia, Carmen recibió el llamado pastoral. Con temor reverente, pero con plena confianza en la guía divina, dio el primer paso en obediencia. El Señor la condujo a las calles de Claxton, Georgia, donde, junto a su esposo, fundó su primera iglesia: Tabernáculo Faro de Dios. Ese fue solo el comienzo. Tres años más tarde, nuevos rumbos militares los llevarían a Ft. Hood, Texas, para cumplir otro ciclo de servicio, antes de regresar finalmente a Georgia en 2005. Allí, nuevamente, el Espíritu Santo habló con claridad. Carmen pidió confirmación, y la respuesta llegó a través del Salmo 62:11: “Una vez habló Dios; dos veces he oído esto: Que de Dios es el poder.” De ese versículo nació el nombre de su iglesia: Iglesia de Dios: De Dios es el Poder, cuyas puertas se abrieron el 8 de enero de 2006. Han pasado veinticinco años desde que aceptó su llamado pastoral—años llenos de sacrificio, entrega y una fe inquebrantable. Carmen fue un testimonio viviente de una verdadera guerrera de Dios, una mujer que nunca tiró la toalla porque confiaba en que su Entrenador—Dios—sería quien le diría cuándo la pelea había terminado. Y el 18 de mayo de 2025, Él le dijo: “¡Es tiempo de lanzar ese último golpe! ¡Es tiempo de venir a casa!” 2 Timoteo 4:7-8 “He peleado la buena batalla, he acabado la carrera, he guardado la fe. Por lo demás, me está guardada la corona de justicia, la cual me dará el Señor, juez justo, en aquel día; y no solo a mí, sino también a todos los que aman su venida.” Su legado vive en los corazones de quienes la amaron y aprendieron de ella. Le sobreviven su amado esposo, Demetrio Méndez; sus hijos: Jesús Méndez, Edgar Méndez y Anne-Marie Méndez-Street (Wintford Street); sus nietos: Israel Méndez, Elisabeth Méndez y Malachi Street; sus hermanos: Rafael Maldonado, Julio Martínez y Gilberto Maldonado; así como un gran número de sobrinos, sobrinas, hijos e hijas espirituales y amigos que hoy celebran su vida.

La familia recibirá a los amigos el miércoles 21 de mayo en Glennville Funeral Home, ubicado en 403 W Barnard St, Glennville, GA 30427. La visita pública comenzará a las 11:00 AM, seguida por el servicio de despedida a las 12:30 PM. La procesión hacia el cementerio saldrá a las 2:45 PM, y el entierro será a las 3:00 PM en el Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 US-301, Glennville, GA 30427.
