Rose Marie Highfill Siehl, 86, passed away on December 30, 2025, at Generations of Irmo Memory Care in South Carolina.
Marie was born on June 4, 1939, in Mullins, South Carolina, to Robert and Emma Highfill. She had one sister, Martha. The family later moved to Savannah, Georgia, where Marie attended Savannah Public Schools and graduated from Savannah High School in 1957. Following high school, she attended Savannah Secretarial School.
Marie met her future husband, Brook Siehl, at Ardsley Park Baptist Church when she was just 15 years old. At the time, Brook was serving in the United States Air Force. After many years of dating, they were married on December 9, 1960. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure and raised two children.
Before having children, Marie worked at a Savannah phone answering service, as a sales associate at a jewelry store, and later as a secretary for CertainTeed Roofing Company. In the late 1980s, she returned to the workforce, serving as a secretary at a bank and later at a law office.
Due to Brook’s career, Marie and her family lived in several communities throughout North and South Carolina, including Charleston, Charlotte, Irmo, and Winston-Salem. After retirement, Marie and Brook made their homes in Hilton Head, South Carolina; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Beaufort, South Carolina.
Marie took great pride in being an exceptional homemaker. Her home was always meticulously kept and beautifully decorated. An accomplished seamstress—a skill she developed in high school—Marie made many of her own clothes as well as her children’s. She once operated a small alterations business from her home and even sewed for a Miss South Carolina contestant. Her talents extended throughout the home, where she created curtains, pillows, and bedspreads. She also had a special gift for floral arranging, bringing warmth and beauty to every room.
Marie loved animals, especially dogs, and cherished many beloved canine companions throughout her life. She and Brook enjoyed camping and boating together and shared a love of travel—from scenic mountain drives to admire fall foliage to bus tours across the United States—creating countless lasting memories.
Marie was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Highfill Waters; her mother, Emma Roquemore Highfill; and her father, Robert M. Highfill.
She is survived by her husband, Brook Siehl; her son, Chris (Alicia) Siehl; her daughter, Karen (Mike) Farrand; her grandchildren, Sean, Spencer, LeighAnn, Tanner, and Zachary; and her great-grandchildren, Ellie and Luke.
Marie will be remembered for her deep love and devotion to her family, her many talents, and the care and beauty she brought into the lives of those around her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Generations of Irmo and Three Oaks Hospice for their empathetic, loving, and respectful care of Marie during the final four months of her life.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local Alzheimer’s Association, your local humane society, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
