Martha Register Spikes, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at the Journey House in Claxton under the care of Affinity Hospice. She was born on August 13, 1944, in Orlando, FL to James and Julia Willis Register and had lived in Reidsville most of her life.
She was a dedicated and respected professional who retired as a Lieutenant from the Georgia Department of Corrections, where she served with unwavering commitment. Her career was marked by diligent service and a steadfast approach to her duties, reflecting the strength of character that those who knew her so well admired.
Martha was a woman of clear convictions and straightforward honesty; you didn't have to wonder where she stood with you. Her resolute nature was paired with a warm heart, especially evident in the joy she found in her family. She treasured her grandchildren deeply, often sharing fond memories and the special moments spent together. Their happiness was a source of constant light in her life.
Outside of her family, Martha had a passion that brought her great joy, playing softball. It was more than a pastime; it was an expression of her spirited and active approach to life. Whether on the field or off, her love for the game mirrored the enthusiasm and dedication she showed in all aspects of her life.
She is attended Friendship Baptist Church and is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, James Register, Donald Register, Ralph Register, Grace Register, and Audrey Dixon.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Joy and Lew Graham of Manassas; sister, Essie Wheeler of Brunswick; grandchildren, Josie (Wayne) Sharpe and Levi Graham (Ansley) all of Manassas; great grandsons, Myers and Turner Sharpe; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 11 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, with the funeral services to follow at 1 PM from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with Reverend Daniel Caraway officiating. Burial will be in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Friendship Baptist Church.
