Michael John Metcalfe

May 1, 1973 — November 12, 2023

Michael John Metcalfe, affectionately known as "Mikey," left this world on November 12, 2023, in Centralia, IL, at the age of 50. Born on May 1, 1973, Mikey brought much joy to his family and friends during his time on Earth. Mikey, the beloved son of John Metcalfe and Brian and Cheryl Reeve, was a source of laughter and warmth for everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His endearing nickname, "Mikey," reflected the affection that surrounded him throughout his life.

One of Mikey's cherished pastimes was sharing moments of pure joy with his family, such as the infectious laughter that erupted when he watched his Grandpa Gus playfully popping open newspapers. Mikey's laughter was a testament to the simple and beautiful moments that defined his life. Additionally, he was a lover of music; he had an affinity for tambourines, and his excitement for music was palpable. He would eagerly scoot through the house to be closer to the tunes that brought him immense joy. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he made sure to express his feelings when the music videos came to an end.

Mikey found love in his life, sharing a special connection with his girlfriend, Karen. Their bond added an extra layer of happiness to Mikey's world, and Karen became an integral part of his life story.  He also could be frequently found in the company of his three special friends, Mark, Donnie, and Brock.  The foursome discovered a unique form of communication that transcended words. Although they couldn't talk, their laughter echoed the deep bonds of friendship they shared, creating moments of joy and connection.

Mikey had a remarkable talent for shedding the constraints of clothing, effortlessly removing shirts, shoes, socks, or anything he didn't want to wear. This characteristic quirk became a trademark of his spirited personality, bringing smiles to those around him. In celebrating Mikey's life, all who knew him will remember the laughter, the music, and the love that defined his journey, and his spirit will continue to inspire warmth and joy in the hearts of those who’s lives he touched.  He is preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Metcalfe; paternal grandparents, Homer Metcalfe and June Wiggins; maternal grandparents, August & Doris Stein and William & Janet Reeve.

Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his parents, John Metcalfe and Brian & Cheryl Reeve; five siblings, Felicia (Daniel) Duke, Jessica Metcalfe, Janelle (Jerald) Lynn, Adam (Hannah) Metcalfe, and Tymothy (Cassandra) Metcalfe; thirteen nieces and nephews, Gabrielle Duke, Marcus Lynn, Isabella Duke, Jesus “J.J.” Vargas, Chloe Lynn, Adam Jordan Metcalfe, Avery Metcalfe, Nyomi Metcalfe, Harmony Metcalfe, Adellya Metcalfe, Melody Metcalfe, Viola Metcalfe, and Benjamin Metcalfe; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends made along life’s journey also survive.
