Phillip Curtis Lumpkin, age 73, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026. Phillip was born on April 18, 1952, in Greenback, Tennessee, to the late Ray and Geneva Russell Lumpkin. Following his graduation from high school, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Phillip dedicated 21 years of honorable service to America, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism.
After retiring from the military, Phillip began a second career in 1992 with Georgia Pacific, where he operated heavy equipment. He continued to work faithfully until 2009, when he retired due to medical reasons.

Phillip was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing softball. He was a proud member of VFW Post 7764 in Reidsville and especially looked forward to the monthly Wisdom Warriors gatherings. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a devoted member of Dirt Church, where he faithfully attended Wednesday night Bible study and Sunday services, always eager to hear Pastor Rachael Harrelson share God’s word. In addition to his parents, Phillip is preceded in death by two brothers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Lumpkin of Reidsville; three step children, Frank Arnst of Saginaw, Michigan, Jacob (Linda) Arnst of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Katherin (David) McLeod of Linden, Michigan; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Pat (Mike) Hansen of Maryville, Tennessee; as well as several nieces, nephews, and countless friends made along life’s journey.
