Rader “Chicken” Brown gently closed his eyes on May 10, 2025 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Reidsville to the late Linton and Katie Lee Brown on September 9, 1953. At an early age accepted Christ and joined Springfield Missionary Baptist Church here in Reidsville. He was educated in the Tattnall County school system where he graduated from Tattnall Industrial High School, class of 1972.
Rader was a fun loving family man, self-made electrician, and neighborhood Mr. Fix-it. He lit up every room he walked into with his quick wit, infectious laughter and trash talk. He was a great employee to everyone he worked for. He worked with Tommy Butler and his crew as a brick laborer for over 15 years. He then moved on to Bland Farms and dedicated over 18 years there. He became an adopted Uncle to many of his co-workers and their families.
Whenever he would get a call to “come take a look at something”, he was always there with a tool in hand, a grin, his phone, and usually a smart remark. He never met a person he did not give a nickname to, whether you liked it or not. From “Big Head” to “Ugly”, he didn’t care where he saw you, that is what he called you. He loved to dance, at family gatherings or just out and about. If there was a beat, he was moving, and if there wasn’t one…. he he’d make one. And let’s not forget his sweet tooth…..anything from Swiss Rolls to peppermint candy, he loved it all. A kind man, with a heart of gold, who would give you his shirt off his back but not before he cracked a joke or talked a little trash.
He leaves to cherish his memories with his devoted, loving wife of 15 years, Renee Brown. Sons: Mathew (Rhea) Sanders, James (Rebecca) Love, Daronte’ and DeAndre Miles, 11 Grandkids and 3 Great-Grandkids. Brother-in-Law, Malik (Khalia) Miles, 9 Siblings: Cecelia (Rudolph) Carter, Betty C. Beal, Wayne Brown, Joyce A. Clay, Lenton Brown Jr., Evelyn Lawson, Gary Brown, Ruben Brown, Bennie Summersett and Glenn (Kim) Brown. Special Friends: Dilbert and Sandra Bland and the Bland Farms family, Ronnie, April, and Brooklyn Willis. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will also miss him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 15, 2025 beginning at 6:00pm from the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Sandhill Cemetery.
