Raymond Lamar Smith “Rudy Ray” age 76, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. He was born October 31, 1947 in Tattnall County to the late R.C. Smith SR and Emma Lou Edwards Smith. He joined St. Phillips Baptist Church and became a deacon in 1967. He was also a member of 585 Masonic Lodge in Reidsville. Raymond was a 1966 graduate of Tattnall Industrial High School and his favorite sport was basketball.

Raymond was married to the late Wilma Clay, late Betty Baker and Sylvia Harrison. Raymond was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved his children and grandchildren beyond measure. He was a great brother, uncle and friend. Raymond was always quiet, he didn’t speak much but when he did, he meant every word he said.

He leaves to cherish his 3 daughters, Linda Holloway of Conyers, Veronica Young of Vidalia, Carla Harrison of Reidsville; he also leaves 2 sisters, Ms. Jacklyn Smith, Ms. Laverne Smith both of Reidsville, and Mrs. Mamie Harris of Reidsville preceded him in death; 2 brothers, Herbert Smith and James Smith both of Reidsville, Sgt. Robert Smith, JR and Willie Henry Smith both of Reidsville preceded him in death; he has 10 grandchildren with Paul Brewton, Jr, preceded him in death; 8 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Rudy Ray will be truly missed and never forgotten.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Rev. Artis Carswell officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandhill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chris Walker, Eddie Hayes, Antoine Jones, Antoino Fate, Chris Walker Jr., Keith Calhoun

The repast will be at St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church.
