Reverend Roman Rodriguez, age 53, devoted pastor, loving family man, and cherished member of the Claxton community passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at East Georgia Medical Center in Statesboro. He was born on January 3, 1973, in Raymondville, Texas to Jose and Liria Rodriguez and had lived in Claxton for the past 38 years.
For 38 years, Reverend Rodriguez faithfully served as the pastor of Primera Iglesia Bautista Agape Church in Claxton. His unwavering dedication to his flock and tireless commitment to spreading the Gospel touched countless lives. He was known for his infectious love of the church and deep passion for visiting people, bringing solace and encouragement wherever he went. Beyond his sacred duties, Reverend Rodriguez found joy in simpler pleasures, including his love for the Dallas Cowboys, singing, and caring for his beloved dogs.
Family was the cornerstone of Reverend Rodriguez’s life. He delighted in spending precious moments with his beloved wife of 31 years, Carmen Rodriguez of Claxton, and their children, Yajaira (Gumaro) Castillo and Ariana (Vitelio) Garcia, also of Claxton. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Liani Castillo, who carries on the precious legacy of her late sister, Giana Castillo, another granddaughter dearly remembered. His warm spirit extended to his siblings Adam Rodriguez of Vidalia, Martina Rodriguez of Claxton, Melissa Leyva of Claxton, Marisela (Joe) Salazar of Texas, and Melva Rodriguez, of Claxton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who fondly recall his kindness and generosity.
The family invites all who knew Reverend Rodriguez to attend the visitation on May 8, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Glennville Funeral Home, located at 403 W. Barnard Street, Glennville, GA 30427. The funeral service will be held on May 9, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ovidio Cabrera officiating. Interment will follow in the Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Gumaro Castillo, Vitelio Garcia, Jeremy Cervantes, Amrando Aguilar, Robert Leon, and Rodney Day.
