Sheila Mills Kirby passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by the people she loved.

She was born in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, Canada, on June 28, 1955, to Ernest and Ivy Mills.

A proud graduate of Penquis Valley High School and the University of Maine at Machias, Sheila then dedicated her life to helping others. She served as a drug and alcohol counselor at Fort Stewart, Georgia, for 30 years until her retirement—impacting countless lives with her compassion, wisdom, and strength. She enjoyed traveling the U.S. and abroad and most of all her annual trek to her beloved Maine home on Schoodic Lake.

Sheila was deeply devoted to her family and loved to spend time with her granddaughters. She is survived by her beloved sons, Adam and his wife, Candice, Ryan and his wife, Melanie; her cherished granddaughters, Caiden, Riley, Aniston, Harper, and Kinsley; and her siblings Carol and Gaetan Beaudoin, Donna Leeman, Allana and Rodney Washburn, Sharon and Michael Rozos, and Eric and Karin Mills. She also leaves behind brothers and sisters-in-law John and Diane Kirby, Gerald and Ginny Kirby, Alan and Pam Kirby, Diane Kirby many nieces and nephews who adored her and by her “bud” of over 40 years Waneta VanDeSteeg.

Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents; her baby brother, Allan; and her sister-in-law, Deanna Dewitt.

Sheila will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and beautiful spirit. She was so loved by all who knew her, and her kindness will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, October 26, at 12 p.m. in Brownville Junction, Maine at Pinetree Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Brownville Free Public Library at P.O. Box 687, Brownville, Maine 04414.
