Susan Jordan Sikes (April 12, 1954 to October 16, 2025)
Susan Jordan Sikes, beloved Mom, Nana, Sister, Aunt and friend passed into Glory on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at her son’s residence in Huntsville, AL, surrounded by family and her most angelic caregiver. She had been eagerly anticipating receiving her perfect healing and meeting Jesus face-to-face in Heaven. Susan was 71 years old.
Susan was born on April 12, 1954, in Savannah, GA to Rev. Clyde Lee and Sue Haire Jordan and grew up in Reidsville, GA, where she attended Reidsville High School. The second oldest of the four Jordan sisters (Kathy, Julie, and Lisa), she attended Armstrong Nursing School and worked for several years as a licensed practical nurse. After her medical career, Susan had a successful career as a civil servant with the U.S. Department of Labor at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). She served in various roles throughout her 21 years with OSHA as a Safety and Health Program Management expert, Compliance Safety and Health Enforcement Officer, Regional Training and Grants Officer, and Regional Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Manager. Following her civil service career, Susan joined Plexus Scientific Corporation where she assisted the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army in establishing the Department of Defense VPP Center of Excellence to support the Secretary of Defense's goal of reducing employee injury and illness rates. Susan concluded her professional career as Executive Director of the Voluntary Protection Program Participants Association (VPPPA) in Washington, D.C. Susan had a true passion for workplace safety, and she enjoyed traveling throughout the country and overseas to help companies and military departments provide the safest work environment possible for employees and service members. Her achievements throughout her distinguished career were a direct reflection of her unwavering love for people.
Susan was an ardent follower of Jesus Christ and was a dedicated volunteer and lay servant in the United Methodist Church. Trained as a Stephen Minister, she provided one-on-one care to those having a difficult time in life. She also served in prayer ministry, Joseph Ministry, and volunteered time in providing communion to homebound parishioners. Susan felt her mission in her later years was to pray for those God had placed in her path. Strangers would often confide in her with their hardships, and she considered it an honor to pray for them and their families.
Susan loved spending time with family and friends at the annual Campmeeting at Tattnall Campground where the Jordan family has been tent-holders since 1867. It is a cherished part of her family’s history and Tattnall Campground has been a special place to Susan since she was a little girl. Susan so loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings and holiday celebrations, cooking and storytelling, as well as being a legendary giver of gifts. Besides the Lord, nothing was more important to her than her family.
