Thomas Edwin “Tom” Dixon March 13, 1944 – July 20, 2025
Thomas Edwin “Tom” Dixon was born on March 13, 1944, in Camp LeJeune, NC, to Harold Thomas Dixon and Dixie Ruth Adkins. He grew up in Florida with his parents and two brothers, Les and Bobby. Tom was very athletic and played multiple sports, but his favorite was playing quarterback for his alma mater, Alva High School, where he graduated in 1962.
Born into a military family, Tom followed in his father’s footsteps and began his service to his country by joining the United States Marine Corps on December 11, 1962, where he proudly served until October 21, 1968. He would later continue his service by joining the United States Navy Reserve, as a member of the “SeaBees,” and finally the Georgia Air National Guard.
On June 6, 1964, Tom married the love of his life, Charlotte Holton, and together they had one son, Eric. Answering the call of God on his life, Tom made the decision to enter the ministry. In 1975, he and his family moved to Lakeland, FL, where he attended Southeastern Bible Institute. Upon graduation, Tom became an ordained minister through the Assemblies of God and served for many years as both a pastor and associate pastor.
In December 1985, while still serving in ministry, Tom and his family moved to Savannah, GA, where he ultimately took a position with Chatham County in the maintenance department. He worked at the Chatham County Courthouse for many years until his retirement in 2011 as maintenance supervisor.
Tom loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His activities were eventually limited after a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Despite his determination and the efforts of his doctors, the illness progressed, and Tom peacefully passed on July 20, 2025.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Charlotte Dixon of Metter, GA; his son, Eric Dixon (Hilary) of Canton, GA; grandchildren, Drew, Emma, and Ava; and his brother-in-law, Steve Holton (Valree) of Reidsville, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at New Life Baptist Church, 29854 Hwy 121, Metter, GA, with Rev. Rusty Rushing and Rev. Joseph Akins officiating.
