Tommy Everage

Tommy Everage, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. He was born in Claxton on March 31, 1946 to Herman Hardy and Selma Kerby Everage and had lived in Claxton most of his life.

Tommy’s life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his country. He began his journey of service in the United States Army, where he devoted 12 years of his life. During his military career, Tommy bravely served two combat tours in Vietnam, where his courage and valor were recognized with three Purple Hearts and the Air Medal. His commitment to service did not conclude with the Army; after his Army tenure, Tommy joined the United States Navy and contributed another eight years, demonstrating a continued devotion to duty and country.

Following his military service, Tommy approached civilian life with the same persistence and adaptability that characterized his years in uniform. He held several odd jobs, finding ways to put his energy and steadfast work ethic to use in his community.

Beyond his storied service and work, Tommy was well known for his larger-than-life personality. He was at once stubborn yet endlessly funny, flirty, and vibrant. Those fortunate enough to share his company can recall countless moments of laughter and lightness, as Tommy's spirited nature had a way of brightening any room.

Fishing was one of Tommy’s most cherished pastimes. Whether alone in tranquil reflection or in the company of friends, he found peace and joy casting a line. The calmness of the water and the thrill of the catch mirrored the quiet strength and persistent optimism with which he approached life.

He was of the Baptist faith and is preceded in death by his parents; his son Eddie Everage; siblings, Joe Everage, Joyce Abell, Jackie Brumbles and Jimmy Kerby.

Survivors include his son, Patrick Everage of Arkansas; his siblings, Ronald (Anna) Everage of Texas, Sharon Sapp and Karon Anderson both of Claxton; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Tommy will be held on August 18, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at The Glennville Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow at the same location at noon. Afterward, Tommy will be laid to rest at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
