The Celebration of Life for Veronica Leigh Carter McRae

Veronice (Ronnie) was born on February 23, 1961 in Reidsville, Georgia to Rudolph Valentino Carter and Cecelia Brown Carter. She departed this life on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 due to an extended illness at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.

At an early age Veronica joined Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Reidsville, Georgia. She was educated in the Tattnall County School System and graduated with honors from Reidsville High School in 1978. She attended South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia and later enrolled in Brunswick Junior College in Brunswick, Georgia where she earned her certification in Respiratory Therapy. She also earned an Administrative Management degree from American Intercontinental University (AIU).

Veronica lived in Reidsville for several years along with her two sons Gregory and Brandon. She met Malcolm McRae and they were joined in holy matrimony in 1986. They resided in Mt. Vernon, Georgia for many years then moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Upon moving to Atlanta, she attended various churches and later joined Exousia Lighthouse Christian Ministries in Lithonia, Georgia under the leadership of Bishop Carl McRae. She served as the Church Administrator and was later ordained as a deacon along with her husband Chief Deacon Malcolm D. McRae. She was instrumental in creating the community service programs and led the outreach teams at Exousia. She was compassionate, dedicated, and loved by individuals who were afforded the opportunity to do community service at the church through the church’s food ministry instead of being incarcerated because of her dedication to giving them a second chance. She was affectionately called Auntie V. Veronica also served on the Executive Team at Exousia. Veronica and her husband moved back to Reidsville in 2022. She became an active member at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church where she assisted with completing the monthly food bank reports for the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church Food Ministry. She was instrumental in providing the Daily Bread booklets for church members and visitors.

She was preceded in death by her husband Malcolm D. McRae and daughter Nicole McRae.

She leaves to cherish her memory five sons Gregory LaShaun Bacon, Sr. (Jasmine), Mt. Vernon, Georgia; Brandon LaSel Bacon (Carshena), Reidsville, Georgia; Malcolm D. McRae, Jr., Travis Telfair (Areesha) both of Atlanta, Georgia and Eric McRae, Mt. Vernon, Georgia; her parents Rudolph V. Carter, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Cecelia Carter, Reidsville, Georgia; four sisters Wanda Carter, Reidsville, Georgia, Bessie D. Laurent, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Deborah A. Carter and Stacey Coley (Chris) both of Reidsville, Georgia; one brother Gordon Travis Carter, Reidsville, Georgia; grandsons Gregory L. Bacon, Jr., Kurein L Bacon, Ashton B. Bacon, Amir Boyd; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 6-8PM at the chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial,135 North Main Street, Reidsville, GA 30453. The funeral will be on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 12PM, at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 151 Oak St, Reidsville, GA 30453, with interment to follow on Monday, April 27, 2026, 1PM at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 US-301 N, Glennville, GA 30427.
