Rev. Wardell A. Rawls Jr. was born in Tattnall County, Collins, Georgia on March 9, 1957 to the late Rev. Wardell A. Rawls Sr. and Retha Mae (Hagan) Rawls. He passed away on November 13, 2024 at the home after a long illness. He lived in Tattnall County for many years. He was a 1975 graduate of Reidsville High School. Growing up as a kid, his hobbies were playing basketball and going fishing with his Dad and Brothers. After graduating from High School, he joined the United States Army for a short period of time. After his Military Service he began working in the Trucking Industry for many years driving throughout the United States. With his kind heart and outgoing personality, Wardell always had the ability to make anyone smile, "No one was a Stranger". Later in life, his most honored and valued memory is when he turned his life over to God. He was a member of Mount Pilgram Missionary Baptist Church and was called to Preach The Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was the Pastor of Greater Rocky Creek Missionary Baptist Church and St. Williams Missionary Baptist Church. It was a Joy for him to share God's Word and would spend hours talking about the Love of Jesus Christ.
He is survived by four Son's, Alonzo (Clare) Rawls, Christopher (Brianna) Rawls, Biondi Rawls, and Trey Rawls. Grandchildren; Jade and Tyler Rawls, Jeremiah and Ka'mari Rawls, Aubrey, Noah, and Ariane Rawls, and Nehemiah Rawls. Six siblings; Kathleen Perry, James Rawls, Rev. Roy Rawls, Samuel Rawls, Debra Rawls, and Raymond Rawls. Several Nephews, Nieces, and Cousin's and a host of Friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; the late Rev. W. A. Rawls Sr. and Retha Mae (Hagan) Rawls. a Son, Wardell A. Rawls III, and a Daughter, Jacqueline Rawls.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 5881 GA Hwy 292, Collins, GA 30421. A Homegoing Celebration is going to be held following the visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. also at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church.
Interment will follow in the family plot at Wilkerson Cemetery following the Homegoing Celebration.
Pallbearers will be Alonzo Rawls, Christopher Rawls, Biondi Rawls, and Trey Rawls.
