Weldon Randolph Gordy

Weldon Randolph Gordy USAF (Ret) departed this station for final PCS (permanent change of station) on February 7, 2024, change due to ETS (Expiration of Term of Service).  Member is instructed to report to Commander Final Duty Station immediately upon arrival.  No Travel Time or PCS funds are authorized.  Member was issued to Ward T and Mary Young Gordy on 04 May 1933. Initial training accomplished at Johnson Corner Grammar School, Toombs Central High and Reidsville High School.  Member entered AD (Active Duty) June 1951 and relieved from AD 01 July 1971.  Upon completion of Basic Training Duty at San Antonio, Texas member was selected to attend electronics school at Kessler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi.  Other stateside duty stations included Amarillo and Austin, Texas; Sumpter and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Griffiss AFB, Rome, New York and Det 3, 1st Combat Evaluation Group, Statesboro, Georgia.  While assigned at last duty station member performed many TDY’s (Temporary Duty) assignments on board the RBS  (Radar Bombing Scoring) Express Trains locations throughout the states.  Member attended many electronics schools at Kessler AFB or by personnel from Kessler AFB at other duty stations. Foreign service included tour of service in Germany, England and Viet Nam.  After retirement from the Air Force, Weldon was employed as the first Driver License Examiner at GSP Post 45, Statesboro, Georgia.  After a period of time, he was promoted Examiner in charge of the Driver's License Station in Marietta, Georgia.  Then attained the position as Driver License Program Director (State Chief Examiner).  After leaving the Department of Public Safety, Weldon was employed by Six Flags Over Georgia Security and Dobbins AFB Department of Defense Security Police.   He was a Security Police Supervisor at the time of his medical retirement.  

Weldon was preceded in death by his daughter, Donnah Sue Gordy, father, Ward Tommie Gordy, mother, Mary Young Gordy, Sister, Christine Gordy Brown, Brother, William Eugene Gordy, and Brother In-Law, Perry M. Brown. 

Member depart this station leaving Nephews, Tommy, Fred and Jimmy Brown, special nieces, Mary Louise Parker, Florence, SC, Barbara Sarris, Conway, SC, Nancy Hucks, Conway, SC, special nephews, Mack L. Montgomery, Jr., Conway, SC, Larry Montgomery, Dry Branch, Ga., Roger Montgomery, Conway, SC., Donald Montgomery, Conway, SC.  All of my treasured cousins and friends.  Member richly appreciated the affection, friendship and assistance rendered during service.    

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Low Country Cremation and Burial with the funeral services at 2:30pm in the Chapel with Reverend Billy Glosson officiating.  Interment will follow in Harden’s Chapel Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Stacy Wilds, Jason Bradley, David Dreggors, Shawn Brown, Matt Brown, and Johnny Ray.
