Willie Arthur Young

November 16, 1937 — May 12, 2026

Reidsville

Willie Arthur Young was born on November 16, 1937, in Tattnall County to the late Arthur Lee Young and Eva Mobley Eason. On Tuesday morning, May 12, 2026, God called him home to eternal rest.

He received his education at Tattnall Industrial School. Throughout his life, Mr. Young was known as a hardworking man who was dedicated to providing for his family. He began working as a sharecropper in Tyson, Georgia, before later working with Georgia Pacific cutting timber in Claxton. As life carried him to different places, he moved to Miami, Florida, where he worked on the docks at the Miami Dade shipping yard. Upon returning to Georgia, he worked as a brick mason for Daniel Brick Company.

Later, he relocated to Wisconsin where he worked in the coal mines before eventually returning home to Georgia once again. Back in Georgia, he worked as a logger hauling pulpwood before pursuing what became his true passion, driving trucks. That passion led him to establish his own company, Young’s Driving Team, transporting shipments across the country in his beloved Peterbilt eighteen wheelers. He would ultimately retire doing what he loved most.

Mr. Young deeply loved his family and often reminded them, “You have a lifetime to work, but education comes first.” His home and heart were always open to those in need. He was also known for saying, “If you are right, I’m with you. If you are wrong, you are on your own.” Though he was a man of few words, when he spoke, people listened. His life was not always easy, but he carried himself with strength, wisdom, and determination.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty five years, Jessie Mae Byrd Young; two sons, Allen Davis and Stacy James Young, Sr.; a daughter, Baby Girl Davis; three sisters, Alvina Poe, Edwina Young, and Mazie Johnson; and five brothers, Joe Bush “J.B.” Eason, Ulysses Eason, Henry Young, Sammy Lee Eason, and James Robert “Buster” Eason.

Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his eleven children, Kelvin Wayne Richardson and wife Okchae of Texas, Norris Coley and wife Maxine of Reidsville, Van Carswell of Reidsville, Deacon Moses Young and wife Jenny of South Carolina, Willie Lee Young of Washington, D.C., Prophet Grady Young and wife Ann of Savannah, Apostle Arthur Lee Young and wife Roxanne of Waycross, Winston Christopher Young of Savannah, Shirley Frazier and husband Bro of Tyson, Willie Mae and husband Lee of Collins, and Evon Roland of South Carolina; one sister, Lillie Mae Pierre of Claxton; two brothers, Hosea Eason and Richard Eason and wife Francis, both of Florida; brothers and sisters in law, Deacon David Byrd and wife Daisy of Johnson’s Corner, Jerlidine Richardson of Reidsville, Rose Merry Byrd of Wisconsin, and Glenda Grimes of Florida.

He also leaves behind those he lovingly raised as his own, Ebony Poe of Korea, Terry Hawkins and Donovan Hawkins of Reidsville, Shawanday of Vidalia, Malcolm Young Sr. of Augusta, Malcolm Young Jr. of Statesboro, Donnell Byrd of Atlanta, and Kenny Byrd of Miami; twenty seven grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
